I can’t believe May is almost over. I feel like I just got used to writing it down on paper. May is always a weird month it seems. The weather can’t make up its mind. I typically get one more round of congestion and cold like symptoms. Windows wide open in the day, shut at night. I won’t lie though, I do love the rainy days that May brings. Nothing better then the smell of rain coming in my windows – which is exactly what’s happening right now. How relaxing!
But one thing May has been consistent about is great new products. Not every item on my list this month is new to the market – but they’re new to me and have become regular staples in my day-to-day life. So here’s my short (kind of) list of great things. I hope they inspire you to try something new!
So for the last year at least I’ve been using a beauty blender to apply my foundations, concealer, and setting powders. There’s no real reason for me switching from brushes to sponges – I just tried the Beauty Blender one day and never went back. I really like the textures they produced and how quickly it applied. It’s also really versatile. I recently picked up the core diffuser angled brush, and decided to give it a go. I must say, it’s a game changer.
This brush is great for liquid and powder foundations. It could also be used for contouring because it’s angled and makes for really easy blending. The dense centre is really great for buffing into the skin and the exterior fibres help smooth and blend everything flawlessly. I love it. It leaves a natural finish similar to the Beauty Blender, so texturally theres no real difference. This brush also comes in a larger size, though it’s not angled, AND, they’re both synthetic (because nobody wants real hair, that’s cruel) and really, really soft.
Another brush I tried recently is this concealer brush. It’s small enough for the under eye area and dense so it blends and buffs into the skin really nicely. Again, synthetic hairs, so really easy to clean and super durable. It’s also another really soft brush, considering how dense it is. Flawless application.
So I’ve been looking for a nice and bright coral for the summer and I think I finally found the perfect shade. Limecrimes Suedeberry is THE perfect coral red. I’m obsessed! Not to mention they’re one of my favourite formulas. They go on smooth, last all day and don’t feel dry at all. I think I’ve got about 20 of them in my drawer…oops! I love ordering on their sale days or free shipping events. Totally worth it!
A few more favourite lippies are Kat Von Ds Hawkwind, Plath and Sanctuary. I got the Plath mini in her mini sampler kit last October for my birthday. I’m so glad she decided to keep Plath and make it a full size because it’s hands down my favourite lipstick of all time. Here they are swatched:
Sidenote: if you haven’t tried her lipliners…go do it. They’re so silky and pigmented!
These skincare products have done wonders for me, but I would like to add a little disclaimer before moving forward. Not all skin is the same. I would definitely consult a skin care specialist before trying anything new, or at least consider your skin type when looking at products. Find what fits you best! My skin type is pretty normal. I’m not oily. I don’t get dry. I very rarely get pimples or blemishes. I have a bit of redness but I feel like that’s relatively normal.
With that being said, I love face masks. I do a few of them a week. I find it really relaxing to have a tea and mask at the end of the night. Plus, it does my skin well. I had the opportunity to try the , and I’m really enjoying it. It comes scented (mango) and unscented. The mango smells absolutely amazing! I use this mask if I’ve had a long day with makeup on. I cleanse, apply the mask and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. My skin looks brighter, pores are less visible and it feels so soft and hydrated. It’s the perfect pick-me-up after a long day. Whipped Mud Mask
GlamGlow masks are obviously a favourite. My top two are the FlashMud Brightening Treatment and the SuperMud Clearing Treatment. The brightening mask I typically use about once a week as it’s a pretty gritty exfoliant. It smells incredible and really has immediate results. The clearing treatment I use as needed. Any time I get a random spot or blemish, I treat the area with a little dab and by the next day I’m clear! You can, of course, use it as a full face mask a couple times a week if needed. A little goes a long way!
I bought these Tony Moly sheet masks on a whim but I ended up loving them. They’re incredibly saturated, smell amazing, and keep my skin hydrated and fresh. They have a wide range of skin benefits so you’re sure to find the right mask for you. To be honest I buy them in a set off of eBay but linked UO.com above, too.
I’ve been using the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Pads for a while, but to be honest, they’re expensive and not something I want to keep in my routine for that reason. My colleague (and beauty guru) Tamara recommended the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Cleansing Pads and they’re a decent replacement for a fraction of the price! They also come in two strengths, just like the Dennis Gross pads. They include glycolic acid to retexturize and resurface and hyaluronic acid to moisturize and refresh. I’m nearly done my first container of 60 pads which has lasted me about two months – and I got them on sale for $12!! Thanks Tam! I owe you one!
